Summary
The loss of genetic diversity of our crops – as part of agrobiodiversity and its declining use in breeding programmes as well as directly by farmers has generated much concern about future food security and environmental sustainability. Various international conventions have addressed this topic and requested that the conservation and utilization of agrobiodiversity, ex situ in genebanks as well as in situ in farmers’ fields, in particular in developing countries, should be supported.
