Final Proceedings: Workshop on the revision of the Novel Food Regulation - Views and experiences regarding traditional foods

Summary
On 1 December 2005, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries (CBI), organized a workshop on the EU Novel Food Regulation1. The objective of the workshop was to present technical suggestions for the revision of the Directive regarding facilitating trade to the EU and to hear perspectives from different stakeholders. The workshop managed to provide a forum for stakeholders to engage in a constructive dialogue. Participants included exporters and exporters’ associations from developing countries, European importers, representatives of developing countries to the EU, representatives from European Commission Directorates General of Health and Consumer Protection, Enterprise and Industry, Trade and Development, and representatives from EU Member States involved in the revision process. Views presented in these proceedings are based on those expressed during the workshop.
